Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Tuesday that the football club has re-signed national linebacker Nick Shortill to a two-year contract. Shortill was eligible to become a free agent at 12 p.m. (noon) today.

Shortill, 25, appeared in 10 games with the Tiger-Cats last season, registering seven defensive tackles and 14 special teams tackles. Hamilton acquired the 6-2, 227-pound native of Nobleton, Ontario, from the Montreal Alouettes on February 12, 2017, in exchange for linebacker Frederic Plesius. In 45 career CFL games (three starts) with the Alouettes (2015-16) and Tiger-Cats, Shortill has accumulated 29 defensive tackles and 43 special teams tackles.

The McMaster University product was drafted by Montreal 13th overall (second round) in the 2015 CFL Draft. He suited up in 26 games for the Marauders from 2011 to 2014, posting OUA All-Star Status twice (2012, 2014). Shortill was also a member of the CIS All-Canadian team and the OUA's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2014, and played in three Vanier Cups (2011, 2012, 2014), winning one in 2011.
