Norfolk Tides News Release

Toledo pounded out 16 hits off of eight different Norfolk pitchers, rolling to an 8-2 win over the Tides Thursday afternoon from Harbor Park.

Brian Bannister, making his 2006 Tides debut on a rehab start, threw just five pitches for Norfolk before exiting in the top of the first inning after retiring Toledo's Ryan Raburn on a groundout to first. The 25-year-old, who had originally injured his right hamstring on April 26th at San Francisco, is scheduled to have an MRI on Friday morning to determine the extent of his injury.

With Bannister injured, the Tides were forced to go to the bullpen early and often, using eight different pitchers -- including catcher Joe Hietpas and infielder Ray Navarrete -- as Norfolk fell for the second consecutive game to the Mud Hens.

Ryan Raburn and Mike Hessman each homered twice for Toledo, as the Mud Hens collected 16 hits on the afternoon.

Anderson Hernandez continued his hot hitting for Norfolk, collecting two hits in four at-bats. Hernandez is now hitting .419 in eight games with the Tides, and has collected five multi-hit games during his current rehab stint.

Lastings Milledge had an RBI double in the fifth inning for the Tides, while Tagg Bozied connected on a solo home run in the loss.

With the loss, the Tides are now 1-13 in day games this year.

Norfolk and Toledo will wrap up their four game series with a Friday night contest at Harbor Park. Reigning International League Pitcher of the Week Evan MacLane (2-0, 0.64) will take the mound for the Tides against Toledo southpaw Wil Ledezma (2-3, 3.18). Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m.
