Ottawa Lynx News Release

Hayden Penn threw 7.0 shutout innings to lead the Lynx to a 2-0 victory and a split of the two games against the Syracuse SkyChiefs on Thursday afternoon. In the first game, the Lynx knocked out a season high 10 runs and 16 hits, but fell to the SkyChiefs 13-10 in a slugfest.

The split leaves the Lynx with a 19-22 record on the season.

GAME ONE - RESUMED GAME FROM WEDNESDAY

Player Of The Game: Syracuse's Kevin Barker had a career day, going 6-for-6 with five runs scored, two homers and seven RBI for the SkyChiefs.

Game Recap: The game resumed from Wednesday's action with Syracuse leading 3-0 courtesy of a solo homer by Kevin Barker in the first, and a two-run homer by Jason Phillips in the 2nd. After Syracuse scored a single run to increase their lead to 4-0, Ottawa got back in the game in the third. Esix Snead led off the inning with a single and went to third on Eddy Garabito's double. An RBI groundout by Brooks Badeaux and an RBI double by Andy Tracy would plate both runners and cut the lead to 4-2. Kevin Barker, in the midst of a career day, responded for the SkyChiefs in the top of the 4th with his second homer of the day, a three-run shot to put Syracuse up 7-2. Ottawa scored a single run in the 4th on and Eddy Garabito RBI single and would get to within two in the 5th when Andy Tracy singled and then scored on Howie Clark's first homer of the year, narrowing the gap to 7-5. It continued to be all Kevin Barker on this day though, as the designated hitter keyed a four-run 6th with a bases loaded double to give him seven RBI on the day and put the SkyChiefs up 11-5. Seemingly out of the game down six runs, the never-say-die Lynx scored five runs on six hits, including a three-run homer by Brandon Marsters and RBI singles by Keith Reed and Brooks Badeaux to narrow the gap to 11-10 after seven innings. The teams continued to exchange runs at an incredible rate, with Syracuse adding two runs in the 8th to increase their lead once again to three runs at 13-10. The Lynx would threaten, but get no closer and fall three runs short in the defeat.

GAME TWO - REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME

Player Of The Game: Ottawa's Hayden Penn was dominant, throwing a five-hit shutout while striking out seven in 2-0 victory.

Game Recap: After a slugfest in game one, the second game of the day started out as a pitcher's duel. Both starters, Ottawa's Hayden Penn and the SkyChiefs David Purcey kept the game knotted at zero until the Lynx scored in the bottom of the fourth. Keith Reed singled and was forced at second on an Eli Whiteside groundout. Whiteside moved to second on a walk to Brooks Badeaux, and scored when Esix Snead singled through the hole at short, putting Ottawa up 1-0. The Lynx extended their lead when Alejandro Freire blasted his second homer in three nights, a monster blast to left, putting the Lynx up by two. Hayden Penn would take things from there, limiting the SkyChiefs to only five hits while striking out seven to pick up his second victory of the year for the Lynx.
