TONIGHT'S GAME: The third of a four game series and the sixth of 12 meetings, the third of six at The Diamond. The Braves are 3-2 vs. Clippers, 1-1 at home. Game seven of an eight game homestand (Richmond is 4-2). The Braves were 3-9 vs. the Clippers last season, 2-4 at The Diamond. This is the 14th of 48 games vs. West Division opponents (the Braves are 7-6), the seventh of 24 at home (Richmond is 4-2). Richmond was 18-30 vs. the West last season, 9-15 at home. The Braves are 339-385 vs. the Clippers all-time. The Braves are third in the South, 14 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. Columbus is third in the West, six games behind Indianapolis.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Richmond Braves beat the Columbus Clippers 2-1 in 12 innings Wednesday at The Diamond. Cesar Crespo's 12 inning single chased Jamal Strong home to give the Braves the win. Both starting pitchers, the Braves Kevin Barry and the Clippers Kris Wilson, worked seven scoreless innings. The Clippers finally pushed a run across in the eighth against Braves reliever Tyler Yates. Andy Cannizaro's RBI single gave Columbus a 1-0 lead. The Braves tied the game in the ninth on a Jonathan Schuerholz sacrifice fly. In the 12th Strong walked, Schuerholz sacrificed him to second, and Crespo singled to score Strong. Wayne Franklin picked up the win. Dusty Bergman took the loss. Strong and Carlos Mendez had two hits each for the Braves. Barry stretched a scoreless streak to 24.1 innings going back to the first inning of his start on April 30 vs. Scranton. Braves pitchers racked up 13 strikeouts.
ROSTER MADNESS: LHP Horacio Ramirez joins the Braves today on a Major League rehab assignment for the second time this season. RHP Anthony Lerew re-joins the Braves one day after he was promoted. Lerew did not pitch in Atlanta. He is one of seven R-Braves to have earned MLB promotions this season. The Braves now have an active roster of 23 (11 pitchers, three catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders) plus Ramirez. The Braves have now made 40 roster moves since Opening Day.
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Cesar Crespo has hits in seven straight games (11-36 .306). Bill McCarthy's four game hitting streak ended last night. Michael Ryan's four game hitting streak ended last night.
ON THE LEADER BOARD: Kevin Barry is now 10th in the IL in ERA and fifth in strikeouts.. Wes Timmons is fifth in the league in on base percentage (.428). Scott Thorman is tied for fifth in hits with 44. Richmond is tied for second with Indianapolis in the IL in fielding percentage. The Braves are third in total chances. Richmond has committed just six errors in their last 16 games.
ON THE RUN: The Braves six stolen bases Tuesday equals an International League season high (Indianapolis also had a six steal game this season). Richmond is now fifth in the league in steals. 17 of the Braves 33 stolen bases have come in the last 10 games.
WALK OFF KNOCKS: The Braves won a game with a walk-off hit for the fourth time this season. Cesar Crespo joins Scott Thorman, Carlos Mendez, and David Kelton on the list of Braves to end games with hits this season. The Braves scored in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings for the third time this season.
