Tides Fall to the Richmond Braves 6-2

Richmond's Barbaro Canizares went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Braves' offensive attack, while Wes Timmons added three hits and an RBI to help the Braves keep their hold on the IL Wild Card lead. Richmond is 1.5 games in front of both Buffalo and Rochester with three games left in the season.

Jeff Bennett (3-5) was solid for the Braves, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings of work. The 27-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out six, lowering his ERA to 3.35.

Jon Knott led the Tides offense with three hits and an RBI, while Val Majewski added two doubles in the loss.

Andy Mitchell (8-8) took the loss for Norfolk, allowing four runs - one earned - on five hits in six innings of work. Mitchell, pitching on four days rest, walked three without striking out a batter.

The Tides will host the Braves again on Saturday night in Norfolk's final home contest of the season. Hayden Penn (2-0, 2.81) is slated to make the start for Norfolk against Richmond right-hander Trey Hodges (5-6, 4.61), with first pitch slated for 7:15. There will also be a post-game fireworks extravaganza after the game.
