Spokane Chiefs News Release
Hello everyone! This is the team captain of the Spokane Chiefs, Justin McCrae. As you all probably know, the second half of the season has started off very well for us. We had a total of six guys participating in the World Junior Championships. Even with all those guys missing for a span of ten games or so, the team managed to play really well and get a few wins. It was definitely a huge boost for us when they finally got back, as we are now on an eight game winning streak. As you all can imagine, every player was anxious for those six players to return, but also had a lot of fun watching our fellow chiefs compete for a world championship and watch our goalie Dustin Tokarski win it. As a team we all were very proud of them and are happy to have them back.
I'm sure everyone knows this by now, but we also got a huge boost of offence after the World Junior Tournament. Ondrej Roman decided to come back and finish the season in a Chief's jersey. Even in his first game back he managed to make a huge impact. He made his signature "from behind the net" pass to Dustin Donaghy who had a wide open net. In his first five games, he already has eight points including two nice goals. I know that he is extremely excited to be back and wants to make it another long post-season!
One thing that has hindered us right from the start of the season has been our injuries. We are almost 47 games into the season and we have not played one game with a full line-up. It's been tough on everyone having a slightly different line-up every night. I myself have had some very bad luck when it comes to injuries. I started out the season with a knee injury that took 9 weeks to heal and am now dealing with something else. Mike Reddington has also been out for close to nine weeks with a groin injury. We have quite a few other injuries that have kept guys sidelined. But now as the second have of the season has rolled around, guys are finally close to being healed and we are that much closer to having everyone back in the line-up for the first time of the season. Everyone in the locker room is really excited to make the final push of the regular season and into playoffs. We all realize the team we have and all believe in each other and are excited to try and do something special!
Your Captain,
Justin McCrae
