Swift Current Broncos News Release

The Swift Current Broncos are honouring the 13 individuals that helped bring the Western Hockey League back to Swift Current in 1986 at this Saturday's game against the Prince Albert Raiders.

A group of businessmen began the process of bringing the WHL back to the city in 1984, and they were rewarded for their efforts with the purchase and relocation of the Lethbridge Broncos for the 1986/87 season. The Broncos were originally in Swift Current from 1967-1974 before moving to Lethbridge.

The group of 13 individuals that were instrumental in that process will be honoured on what is being dubbed Swift Current Broncos/Tim Horton's Founders Night, with a pre-game ceremony, on this the 20th anniversary of the franchise's Memorial Cup victory in 1989.

The Broncos Founders are:

Lloyd Ailsby, Garry Bollinger, Bryon Campbell, John Froese, Stan Horner, Gord Janke, Frank MacBean, Bill Mann, John Rittinger, Gerry Salter, Wally Walker, Jim Warren and Ben Wiebe

The Broncos Hockey Club encourages fans to help us honour these individuals with their attendance at Saturday's game. Tickets are available at The Stable or by calling 773-1509 extension 1.
