Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs failed to add on to an early 1-0 lead Friday night against the Portland Winterhawks as the Hawks rallied back with four unanswered goals to win the game 4-1.

The Chiefs got on the board first at the 9:53 mark of the opening period as Jaret Anderson-Dolan capitalized on a backdoor pass from Jake McGrew to find the net. Portland responded with three goals of their own before the horn sounded to finish the period. Matthew Quigley struck first for the Winterhawks, 11:18 into the game, evening the score at 1-1, followed by Kieffer Bellows taking advantage of a high-sticking double minor to score a power play goal with 4:42 remaining in the first. Bellows went on to score his second power play goal of the period with 22-seconds left in the period, pushing the lead to 3-1.

Spokane would but the puck on net 24 times in middle stanza, but failed to earn a marker. For a moment, the Chiefs appeared to cut the lead in half 14-seconds into a power play, when Zach Fischer swatted a puck into the back of the Portland net, but the goal was waived off after officials determined a glove redirected the puck.

The Chiefs would continue their shot frenzy into the third period, but to no avail as Portland notched the only goal of the period as Cody Glass slid the puck under Chiefs netminder Dawson Weatherill with just 4:46 to play, putting the final stamp on a 4-1 defeat of the Chiefs.

Spokane finished the night 0-4 on the power play while the Winterhawks went 2-5. The Chiefs outshot Portland 48-34.

The Chiefs host the Tri-City Americans tomorrow night on Saturday, November 4 at Spokane Arena. It will be Buck Night, meaning fans can purchase hot dogs and Coca-Cola products for $1.

Tickets for Saturday night and all Chiefs home games are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at 509-535-PUCK and online at spokanechiefs.com.
