CHIEFS FALL TO TRI-CITY ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Spokane, Wash - The Spokane Chiefs fell at the hand of the Tri-City Americans Saturday night in an shootout loss 3-2.

The Americans got on the board first when Juuso Valimaki fed the puck to forward Kyle Olson net front, who redirected it past Chiefs' netminder Dawson Weatherill to make it 1-0 8:05 into the opening period.

With Tri-City defenseman Mitchell Brown in the penalty box, fellow American Juuso Valimaki streaked past the Chiefs defense, receiving a pass from Brett Clayton to stretch the Americans' lead to 2-0 5:28 into the second period. The Chiefs would earn their first marker on the same penalty when Jaret Anderson-Dolan used a pass from Eli Zummack to cut the Americans lead in half with a power play goal, making it 2-1 at the 6:02 mark of the second.

Spokane evened things up at 2-2 with 9:15 remaining in regulation as Chiefs rookie forward Cedric Chenier's checking in with the first goal of his Western Hockey League career.

Things stayed deadlocked through the remainder of regulation as well as overtime, resulting in the second shootout in the last three home games for the Chiefs. Each team netted just one goal through the first three rounds as Kyle Olson and Hudson Elynuik each found some twine, sending the shootout into sudden death. Nolan Reid put the Chiefs ahead as he slid one through the five-hole, but was matched by Parker AuCoin score that allowed Carson Focht to earn the 3-2 win in the seventh round of the shootout.

The Chiefs went 1-5 on the power play on the night as the Americans went 0-2. Spokane outshot Tri-City 52-45.

Dawson Weatherill stopped 43 shots for the Chiefs and earned second star honors while Patrick Dea made 50 saves for the Americans and was first star.

The Chiefs return to action back at home on Friday, November 17 when they host the Victoria Royals. It will be Fred Meyer Shop With the Chiefs Night, when lucky Chiefs fan has the chance to walk away with a $1,000 Fred Meyer shopping spree with their favorite Chief!
