
Thunderbirds Run Away from BayHawks in Fourth

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds (3-1) used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Erie BayHawks (3-2) on Friday night and win by a score of 105-89.
In the fourth quarter, the Thunderbirds outscored the BayHawks 30-17. Alan Anderson led all scorers with 28 points in the game and Shane Edwards chipped in with 22 points.
After a close first quarter, the BayHawks led the Thunderbirds by two points, 24-22. Cedric Jackson led all scorers with eight points in the quarter, while Anderson led the T-Birds with 7 points on 3-for-4 shooting.
Erie opened up the second quarter on an 11-4 run to and take a nine-point lead 35-26. The T-Birds answered with a 15-6 run of their own to close out the half and they trailed by two, 48-46 at the break. Anderson keyed the Thunderbirds run with nine points over the final five minutes.
In third quarter, Anderson hit a three-pointer with 4:17 left that capped a 19-8 run and gave the Thunderbirds a 65-56 lead. They entered the final quarter leading 75-71.
The Thunderbirds started the fourth quarter on a 14-4 run to open up a 14-point lead and pull away from the BayHawks for good.
Daniel Orton, making his Thunderbirds debut, scored 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting and had 13 rebounds to go along with 4 assists in 30 minutes of action.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. against the Erie Bayhawks at the Santa Ana Star Center.
