Trenton Thunder News Release
After a four-run top of the 12th inning by the Portland Sea Dogs, a walkoff two-run triple by Zack Zehner capped off a five-run Thunder rally for an 8-7 win at ARM & HAMMER Park Saturday night.
The win was the largest comeback by the Thunder this season and extended the team's winning streak to five games.
Trailing 7-3, The Thunder (21-10) got three straight two-out RBI-singles from Wendell Rijo, Ben Ruta, and Chris Gittens to come within one run. Zehner then followed with a line drive to right field that scored Ruta and pinch-runner Jeff Hendrix for the victory.
Jordan Weems (0-1) took the loss for Portland (11-21), allowing all five of the runs in the rally after striking out two.
Domingo Acevedo (5-1) received the win, despite surrendering four runs to the Sea Dogs in the top of the 12th on a wild pitch and homers by Brett Netzer and Bobby Dalbec, the latter of whom hit a career-high three home runs in the game.
The Thunder took a 2-0 lead on a Rijo two-run homer in the first inning off Dedgar Jimenez, then added to the Thunder lead in the fifth with an RBI-double. Dalbec's first two home runs came in the fourth and sixth innings, bringing Portland within one run in each instance.
Carrying a 3-2 advantage, the Thunder saw Portland tie the score in the eighth on a throwing error by third baseman Angel Aguilar. The Thunder had just cut down the would-be tying run on the previous play, as Zehner picked up a Dalbec double in left field and shortstop Kyle Holder delivered the relay throw to the plate where Jorge Saez tagged out Netzer.
Your Thunder conclude their homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against the Sea Dogs. RHP Rony Garcia (1-0, 4.66) will start for the Thunder, and LHP Kyle Hart (2-4, 2.60) will go for Portland. In celebration of Mother's Day, the first 1,000 women ages 18 and up will receive a pink Thunder t-shirt, presented by Aztec Graphics Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
