Thunder Trades Wiebe
January 22, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder made several roster moves today, highlighted by the trade of forward Kris Wiebe to the Colorado Eagles for future considerations.
A third-year pro out of Lloydminster, Alberta, Wiebe (pronounced WEEB) had spent his entire pro career with the Thunder, notching 49 goals and 96 points in 149 games. This season, Wiebe had eight goals and 19 points in 33 games. In exchange, the Thunder will receive a player to be named later. Other terms of the deal are undisclosed.
Decimated by injury, the Thunder re-signed forward Sean Roulston. The son of former Wichita Wind, Wichita Thunder and NHL veteran Tom Roulston, Sean appeared in four games for the Thunder earlier this month. Roulston fills one of the roster spots vacated by defenseman Tyler Hanchuck and forward Chris Greene, both of whom were placed on the 14-day injured reserve.
Hanchuck, who is having a career-season with 11 points, has missed the last five games. Greene, meanwhile, suffered a broken hand in Friday's game at Arizona. The Thunder will also be without rookie forward Mike Batovanja (pronounced bat-uh-VAN-juh) for an undetermined amount of time. Batovanja suffered a broken wrist in Saturday's overtime loss at New Mexico.
The Thunder, 7-8-1 under new head coach Rob Weingartner, will finish their season-long six-game road trip tonight at Tulsa. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Wichita hopes to have a new player or two in the lineup when they return home on Friday to host the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:05 p.m.
