Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA - After a thrilling, come-from-behind victory on Friday, the Trenton Thunder roared back and thumped the Altoona Curve 11-2 on Friday evening at Blair County Ballpark.

Curve pitchers allowed a season-high 17 hits and the Curve defense committed a season-high four errors in the field for the second time in three games. The Curve offense was only able to squander two hits the entire game en route to dropping their sixth game in their last seven tries.

Trenton scored runs in five of the first six innings to jump out to the advantage in front of a lively crowd of 5,729 at BCB.

Curve starter Derek Hankins (0-2) allowed five runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Hankins, making his first since being reinstated from the disabled list after he was struck by a line drive on April 21 experienced another scary moment early in the game. Hankins was hit again by a come backer to the mound in the first inning. He remained in the game to finish the inning but had to exit the contest midway through the third.

Kyle Bloom relieved Hankins and allowed three runs over the course of 2 2/3 innings.

The only Curve offense of the night came in the first and fifth innings. Melvin Dorta came across to score on a Jonel Pacheco RBI groundout in the first, while Anthony Webster belted his third home run of the year in the fifth.

Derek Antelo allowed three runs in one inning of work before the combination of Pat Bresnehan, newly reinstated from the disabled list, with help from Evan Meek held Trenton scoreless over the final three innings of the game.

The Curve offense though couldn't ignite against Trenton starter George Kontos, (2-4) who stymied the Curve bats over seven innings. Kontos combined with Mark Melancon, who tossed two scoreless frames of baseball to combine on the two-hitter.

Altoona will look to take the third game of the series on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. The Curve will send right-hander Jimmy Barthmaier (2-3, 5.72) to the mound in search of the victory while Trenton is slated to throw righty Alfredo Aceves (NR).

Sunday's Curve game at BCB will feature a bevy of promotions and giveaways. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the Curve will host a Youth Little League Clinic. The clinic is free with the purchase of a ticket to Sunday's game.

Also on Sunday, the Curve will give away $5 gift cards to the first 1,000 fans 15 and over to walk through the turnstiles, while the first 2,000 fans 14 and under will receive a Steamer Growth Chart. Following the game fans will enjoy a spectacular fireworks show while kids can run the bases, courtesy of Thomas Chevrolet of Bedford.

Great seats for Sunday's contest are still available. To reserve seats, fans are urged to call 877-99-CURVE, log on to AltoonaCurve.com or stop by in person at the Blair County Ballpark box office.
