Bowden Leads The Way, Sea Dogs Beat Rock Cats 4-1

(Portland, ME) - Michael Bowden (4-3) and Daniel Bard combined to retire 27 of 30 batters as the Sea Dogs defeated the Rock Cats 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field.
Bowden earned the win by working a season-high seven innings, on one hit, one run (unearned), no walks and five strikouts. New Britain's Steve Tolleson led off the game by reaching on an error by Tony Granadillo and later scored on a groundout. Bowden retired 17 straight batters after Dustin Martin's infield-single in the second.
Daniel Bard fired the last two innings to earn his first Double-A save. Bard struck out Brock Peterson to end the game on a 99-mph fastball.
Anthony Swarzak (2-2) took the loss for the Rock Cats, hurling six innings on six hits and four runs. Ben Julianel closed out the game with two scoreless frames.
Portland tied the game at one in the third inning on a run-scoring triple by Jeff Corsaletti. Sandy Madera snapped the tie with a 2-run double in the sixth inning and John Otness followed a sacrifice fly.
The Sea Dogs have won the first two games of the series and play game three on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
Notes...Zach Daeges extended his on-base streak to 23 straight games...Aaron Bates was hit-by-a-pitch in the sixth inning for the 11th time this season...Bard made his debut at Hadlock Field.
