Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- The Thunder used five pitchers and recorded 14 hits in an 8-6 win over the Reading Phillies on Friday night at Waterfront Park. Adam Warren earned the win in his Double-A debut in front of 7,953 fans.
For the second straight game, a first inning error by the Thunder led to a run for the R-Phils, as Justin Snyder committed a throwing error on a ground ball hit by Rich Thompson. The Reading center fielder stole second base and moved to third base on a ground ball before scoring on an RBI grounder from Michael Spidale to go up 1-0 over Trenton.
The Thunder hitters responded with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning off RHP Mike Cisco. The first three batters in Justin Christian, Luis Nunez and Austin Romine all recorded hits and came around to score in the frame. A sacrifice fly by Christian in the second inning put the Thunder in front 4-1. Christian and Nunez both notched three hits apiece on the night.
Jack Rye started a string of four straight hits in the fourth inning off Cisco (2-6), who left after allowing an RBI triple to Justin Snyder and a run-scoring single to Christian to give the Thunder a 6-1 lead. In his first Double-A start, Warren allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five and walked four batters in five innings of work.
Reading placed three runs off J.B Cox in the sixth inning, but the combination of Wilkins Arias, Kevin Whelan and Ryan Pope held the Phillies to one run over the final three innings in the win. Pope struck out the side in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season. Austin Romine and Brandon Laird delivered RBI hits in the sixth inning to stake an 8-6 lead.
Trenton and Reading will play the third game of the four game set on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Cory Arbiso goes to the mound for the Thunder, and the Reading Phils will go with RHP Drew Naylor. For tickets, call 609-394-330, or online at trentonthunder.com.
