RICHMOND, VA - On the strength of a solo-home run from Ryan Adams, the Bowie Baysox claimed a 10-inning, 5-4, win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in front of 7,174 on Friday night at The Diamond.

Adam's solo-shot to left-center field came with one out in the top of the 10th inning off of Squirrels' left-hander Jake Stevens. Stevens (4-2) was doomed to his second defeat of the season. Right-hander Jose Diaz (1-0) worked two scoreless innings of relief, stranding the tying run at second base in the bottom of the 10th to earn his first win of the season.

The Squirrels opened the scoring against Bowie right-hander Chorye Spoone in the third inning, netting a pair of unearned runs for a 2-0 lead. Clay Timpner started the inning with a flare-single and Darren Ford followed with a liner to short-center field. Danny Figueroa misplayed Ford's fly, allowing Timpner to come all the way around with the first run of the ballgame. Ford scored when Nick Noonan grounded out.

Bowie quickly erased the lead with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth against Richmond righty David Mixon. Mixon conceded a lead-off double to Ryan Adams and Tyler Henson followed with a two-run home run to left field that tied the ballgame, 2-2.

The Squirrels forged back ahead with another run against Spoone in bottom of the inning. Brad Boyer sparked the uprising with a single to start the frame. Three baters later, Ford blooped a single into right field to bring in Boyer for a 3-2 advantage.

Again, the Bayson answered in a hurry. In the top of the fifth, Greg Miclat led off with a single, his second of the game. Carlos Rojas delivered a perfect hit-and-run single to move Miclat to third with nobody out. Figueroa bounced into a double play, but Miclat scored to again knot the score, 3-3.

Undeterred, Richmond rallied for the lead once more in the bottom of the inning. Thomas Neal doubled up the third-base line with one out and moved to third on a groundout from Brandon Belt. Ford chopped an infield-single back over the mound with two outs that put Richmond back on top, 4-3.

Mixon settled back in and worked through the seventh inning with the Squirrels still in the lead. However, he came back out in the eighth and conceded a lead-off single to Danny Figueroa. Mixon was lifted in favor of right-hander Daniel Turpen. Turpen struck out the next two batters, but allowed a flare-single to Joel Guzman that moved Figueroa to third base. Joe Mahoney then tied the game, 4-4, with a single pulled into right field.

Mixon didn't factor in the decision, working seven-plus innings and allowing four earned runs on nine hits. He matched a career-high in strike outs with 10, but failed in his bid for a 10th win. Spoone lasted six innings, and also didn't register a decision.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 6:35 PM on Saturday night at The Diamond. LHP Clayton Tanner (4-6, 3.36) will make the start for Richmond against LHP Rick Zagone (1-0, 3.60) for the Baysox.
