Thunder Skid Continues with 4-2 Loss vs. Tulsa

Wichita, KS - Wichita (21-14-3) returned home for the first time in two weeks, but couldn't hold onto a third period lead and fell 4-2 to the Tulsa Oilers (11-24-3) on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Matt Robinson scored his first of the season since coming back to Wichita while Andrew Martens recorded two assists in the losing effort. Wichita leads the season-series 3-2-0 and will play the next two games in Tulsa. With the loss, Wichita has dropped its last three contests and will look to change things with its first trip this weekend to the BOK Center.
The Oilers got out of the gate quickly, scoring just 1:44 into the contest. Tulsa created a turnover behind the Thunder net and Ben Gordon was able to find the twine to give Tulsa a 1-0 advantage. At the 11 minute mark, Matt Robinson tied the game at one after catching a nifty pass from Les Reaney in the slot and beat Shane Madolora over the glove.
In the second, Dustin Donaghy gave Wichita the lead halfway through the period. Kevin Young made a nice pass across the slot from the goal line and Donaghy buried his third of the year to make it 2-1.
The Oilers took control in the third period, scoring three unanswered and handed Wichita its first loss when leading after two periods in regulation. At 9:18, Patrick Schafer caught a pass from behind the net from Drew Fisher and he tied the game at two. Fisher then followed that up with a shorthanded break-a-way goal at 15:25 to give the Oilers the lead for good. Late in the period, Wichita had some good chances and pulled Kevin Regan for the extra attacker. The Oilers would not be denied as Ryan Menei cleared the puck from the right wall in his own zone the length of the ice and found the empty net with 30 seconds left and gave the Tulsa a 4-2 victory.
Wichita is now 16-1-1 when leading after two periods. Since December 29th, Wichita has gone 2-6-0 over its last eight games and lost for just the fifth time on home-ice.
Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Oilers were 0-for-4.
The Thunder heads to the BOK Center for the first time this season for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday. After this weekend, Wichita has a three-game home stand starting out with the Denver Cutthroats on Saturday, January 26th.
