
Blaze Second-Period Outburst Fells Cutthroats

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, used a franchise-best five-goal second period to beat the Denver Cutthroats 6-4 on Friday night at U.S Cellular Coliseum.
The Cutthroats struck first when Jean-Philipp Chabot scored from the right side of the net with 13:43 left in the first period. The Blaze tied it up when Nicklas Lindberg slapped the puck in from the slot with the help of Jon Booras and Matthew Larke with 8:44 left in the period.
The Blaze opened a trio of scoring when Larke scored a power-play goal with 13: 40 left in the second. Just 38 seconds later Matt Puntureri scored for the Blaze again from the right wing, then 57 seconds later the Blaze scored again when Lindberg shot a one timer to put the Blaze up 4-1. With 2:31 left in the period Travis Granbois had a breakaway chance and missed but Dan Barczuk caught the rebound and scored to push the lead to 5-1. The Blaze score again when Jared Walker shot one in from the slot with 1:24 left, making it 6-1 at the end of the period.
The Cutthroats' A.J Gale scored a one-timer with 16:28 left in the third period. Denver scored again when Ben Wilson put one in from the blue line with 8: 38 left in the period. The Cutthroats started to catch up to the Blaze when Gale scored again with 8:17 left in the period to make it 6-4.
The Blaze will continue to play at home on Saturday against the Fort Worth Brahmas. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Popular local band Brushfire will perform an hour-long set in the arena after the game, which along with the Junior Blaze game at 3:30 is included in the single admission. Junior Blaze win: The Jr. Blaze beat the Holland River Bandits 4-2 on Friday at the U.S Cellular Coliseum. The Jr. Blaze will play the Holland River Bandits again on Saturday at the U.S Cellular Coliseum at 3 p.m.
