Third Period Comeback Gives Oilers 4-2 Road Win over Thunder

Tulsa Oilers News Release

WICHITA, KS - Entering Friday's contest at Wichita, the Tulsa Oilers had not recorded a third period comeback all season long. In fact, the Oilers were 0-21-2 when trailing after two periods and the Thunder, an outstanding front-running team, posted a mark of 16-0-1 when leading after forty minutes. But thanks to the third period heroics of Drew Fisher, Tulsa broke through for three goals in the final frame and pushed past the Thunder for a 4-2 victory at the Intrust Bank Arena.

The rivals traded goals in the first period and Dustin Donaghy gave the home side a 2-1 edge in the second period. Wichita maintained that advantage until the 9:18 mark of the third period when Fisher started to take the game over. The Oilers rookie winger controlled the puck behind the Wichita net, created a passing lane, and tapped the puck to the waiting tape of Patrick Schafer who poked a shot past Kevin Regan for the game-tying tally. Schafer has two goals, both on the road, in just four games as an Oiler.

Six minutes later, with the game still tied at 2-2 and the Thunder on a powerplay, Fisher stepped in front of Kevin Young's snapshot and pounced on the loose puck in the neutral zone. The Minnesota native sped past Young, moved in all alone on Regan and blasted the puck into the net for his sixth goal of the season and the Oilers third shorthanded marker of the season.

Tulsa netminder Shane Madolora turned away 14 shots in the third period and Ryan Menei's empty-net goal with 30 seconds left, sealed the victory for the Oilers.

The Oilers were triumphant for just the second time in their last 10 trips to Wichita and have now posted back-to-back road victories for the first time since December of 2011.
