Trenton Thunder News Release
Ali Castillo drove in three runs in the first two innings to lead the Thunder to a 7-3 victory over the Binghamton Mets in front of 7,481 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park on Thursday night.
Castillo brought home Jake Cave with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to grab an early 2-0 lead. Castillo then drove home Tony Renda and Mark Payton with a double in the third to push the Thunder to an early 5-3 advantage.
After starter Joel De La Cruz lasted just 4.1 innings, the bullpen combination of Cesar Vargas and Andrew Bailey combined to throw 4.2 shutout innings of relief to secure the victory.
Bailey, who threw the final two frames, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out four. With his effort, he lowered his ERA to 0.73 in 12.1 innings with the Thunder.
The Thunder offense added a pair in the sixth inning with and RBI double by Taylor Dugas and a run-scoring single from Danny Oh to take a 7-3 lead.
Tony Renda and Mark Payton each reached base three times in the victory. Danny Oh added two hits including his ninth double of the season.
With the win, the Thunder are tied with the Reading Fightin' Phils for the East Division Wild Card and just a half game back of Binghamton for the division lead.
Your Thunder will continue their four-game series with the B-Mets on Friday night at 7:00pm. The first 2,000 fans, age 14 and up, will receive CC Sabathia Bobbleheads, presented by TD Bank. The Thunder will throw LHP Caleb Smith (8-5, 4.13), the B-Mets will start RHP Robert Gsellman (4-5, 3.76). Tickets can be ordered online at Trentonthunder.com/tickets or by phone at 609-394-3300.
