LAST GAME: The B-Mets completed their sweep of the Rock Cats with a 9-5 win in New Britain Wednesday afternoon. Michael Fulmer tossed five shutout innings for this fifth win, while the B-Mets homered three times in a game for the second time this year. Gavin Cecchini had four hits, while Jared King hit a pinch-hit grand slam to break the game open. Xorge Carrillo added his sixth home run, while Josh Rodriguez hit his league-leading 15th.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP John Gant is making his 11th start with Binghamton and second consecutive against Trenton. He beat Trenton his last time out, allowing three runs in six innings while striking out a Double-A career high seven batters. Gant has made three starts since returning to Binghamton, working to a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings.Â
TRENTON STARTER: RHP Joel De La Cruz is making his second start with Trenton, both coming against Binghamton. He allowed three runs in 4.2 innings in the first go-round, earning the loss at NYSEG stadium five days ago. His lone Trenton win came in his first appearance of the season, back on April 10th.
AT-STAKE: A win Thursday would be Binghamton's 15th of July, the most in a month this season. Binghamton is currently tied with New Hampshire for most wins this month.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: The B-Mets are off to a 14-6 start in July, leading the league in team ERA (2.02) and ranking second in team batting average (.278) for the month. Altoona leads the way, batting .297 in the month. Binghamton also has the second most home runs (17) in the month, one behind Bowie. The B-Mets have had a sub-3 ERA once in their last 51 months.
STRONG LIKE A BULL(PEN): The B-Met bullpen has made 14 scoreless appearances over the last 19 games. B-Met relievers have a 1.69 ERA (8 ER, 42.2 IP) since July 2nd.
CONFORTO CRUSHING: Michael Conforto is 13-for-32(.393) with two home runs and six extra base hits over his last eight games. Conforto has reached base in 10 consecutive games, getting on base 17 times total, and was named the EL Player of the Week on Monday.
AINT LIFE GRAND: Jared King hit his first career grand slam in Wednesday's win. Binghamton has now hit five grand slams in their last 91 games, after hitting five total in their previous 447 regular season games.
FOUR!: Binghamton has won four consecutive series for the first time this season.
THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: Binghamton has allowed more than three runs in just two of their last 15 games. The B-Mets are 39-13 when holding their opponent to less than four runs in a game this season.
CLOSING TIME: Jon Velasquez has earned six saves in the last 18 days and has been successful in each of his last 11 save opportunities. Velasquez has allowed one run in 16 ninth innings, while striking out 16. He has a 7.20 ERA in all other innings of work (5 IP, 4 ER, 1 K). Paul Sewald has been successful in his last 14 save opportunities.
FIRST IMPRESSION: Joe Benson has reached base in each of his first nine games with the B-Mets, notching a basehit in eight of them. Benson has reached base multiple times in six of the nine games.
