Thunder reinstates Blaznek
March 21, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today reinstated right wing Joe Blaznek to the active roster, as the Thunder prepare for three games in three nights this weekend which will determine their playoff fate.
A fourth-year Thunder veteran out of Detroit, Michigan, Blaznek was placed on team suspension on Sunday and missed the Thunder's 5-2 victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage that evening. He ranks third on the Thunder this season with 62 points, but it is his clutch play that the Thunder will need most this weekend. Over the last four seasons, no other CHL player comes close to Blaznek's total of 33 game-winning goals. He ranks second in the CHL this season, with eight.
"I want to apologize to my teammates and to the fans for the distraction I caused. I made an error in judgment, which led to a poor decision on my behalf", said Blaznek. "The suspension I was given was more than fair and I appreciate the organization giving me a second chance. I look forward to getting back in the lineup and hope that everyone will continue to support our team as we make our playoff push."
The Thunder currently trails the Tulsa Oilers by one point in the battle for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. Both teams play on Friday and Saturday, and will then meet in what could be a winner-take-all game on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at the Kansas Coliseum. If the Thunder and the Oilers finish tied in both wins and points, the Thunder will win the tiebreaker, based on head-to-head record.
The Thunder return to action on Friday at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers and another large crowd is expected. For tickets or more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
