Thunder rally for 3-2 win over Altoona Monday Night

(Altoona, PA)- 1B Cody Ehlers hit a solo home run in the 5th Inning as the Thunder ralled from two runs down to defeat the Altoona Curve 3-2 on Monday night.

Altoona (1-4) took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning by scoring two unearned runs off of Thunder starting pitcher Jason Jones. CF James Boone hit a sacrifice fly RBI and 2B Melvin Dorta connected on a two-out RBI single for Altoona in the inning.

Trenton (3-2) rebounded with three runs in the 5th inning off of Altoona starting pitcher Josh Hill. Ehlers led off the inning with his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall. After a double by C Joe Muich, 3B Marcos Vechionacci drove him home with an RBI single. Vechionacci would later score the go-ahead run in the inning on an RBI groundout by Thunder OF Austin Jackson.

Jones (1-0) went five innings for the Thunder and yielded five hits to go along with the two unearned runs. Hill went five innings as well, and gave up six hits and three runs. The Thunder bullpen of David Robertson and Michael Garnder combined to toss four shutout innings to preserve the win. Gardner pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his first win of the season.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. Thunder LHP Chase Wright (0-0, 3.00) will make his second start of the season. He will be opposed by Altoona LHP Kyle Bloom (0-1, 14.73).
