Curve Enjoy Strong Opening Weekend Attendance at BCB

April 7, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve's season-opening four-game series against Reading this past weekend at Blair County Ballpark drew a total of 17,522 fans to Blair County Ballpark, marking the club's best opening four-game attendance since the 2005 season. Making that feat even more impressive is the fact that this year's April 3 home-opening date is the earliest in the 10-year history of the franchise. In 2005, the Curve Home Opener was held 11 days later on April 14.

Highlighting the opening-weekend attendance was the largest Opening Day crowd in Curve history on Thursday. A total of 6,736 fans attended the 2008 Curve Home Opener at Blair County Ballpark, eclipsing the previous record of 6,220 set in 2001.

Through four games, the Curve's average of 4,381 fans per game is the best among the six Eastern League cities which hosted games this weekend.

The Curve remain at Blair County Ballpark Monday to open a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder (AA/New York Yankees), which runs through Wednesday. Game times for Monday and Tuesday are 6:35 p.m., while Wednesday's contest will feature a special 4:05 p.m. start. Monday is "We Win, You Win Night" at the ballpark, meaning that if the Curve defeat the Thunder, all fans holding tickets to Monday's game will receive a FREE Grandstand or UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction ticket to Tuesday's game. Monday is also the first Ponderosa Steakhouse Family Four-Pack Monday of the season. Families of four can receive four Grandstand Level tickets, four regular hot dogs and four small sodas for only $40.

On Tuesday, the Curve will let Mother Nature decide ticket prices on "Dime-A-Degree Night". Whatever the temperature at Blair County Ballpark is at 9 a.m. Tuesday, that reading will be multiplied by a dime (.10 for mathematical purposes) and that will be cost of a Grandstand (300 Level) or UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction ticket for that night's game. For example, if the temperature is 40 degrees, then Grandstand and UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction tickets will cost only $4.00!

Wednesday, when the Curve host Trenton at 4:05 p.m., it will be "Pack Your Bags For Myrtle Beach Day" at Blair County Ballpark. 20 lucky fans in attendance will win a trip for two (2), including bus fare and hotel accommodations, to Myrtle Beach from April 23-26. In addition, Atlantic Broadband will sponsor "Mini Burger and Mini Beverage Discount Day" and it's Giant Eagle Advantage Card Wednesday. Fans who show their Giant Eagle Advantage Card at the Curve Box Office at Blair County Ballpark receive a "buy one, get one free" ticket in the UPMC Health Plan Home Run Junction.

For tickets fans can call (877) 99-CURVE or order on-line at AltoonaCurve.com. The Curve Ticket Office is open starting at 9 a.m. each day this week and will remain open until after each game is completed.
