Birthday Bash...Aeros C Armando Camacaro celebrated his 29th birthday in style yesterday afternoon, cracking a double and two home runs in Akron's come-from-behind, 13-11 win over Harrisburg. Camacaro drove in a career-high seven runs and also collected 10 total bases as the Aeros avoided the sweep. The 10-year veteran got off to a fast start with a ringing RBI double in the second, and then added a two-run homer as part of Akron's four-run rally in the third. Harrisburg mounted a rally with three runs in the sixth to cut Akron's advantage to a single run but in the top of the seventh Camacaro delivered once more, blasting a grand slam that stood up as the winning margin. The game marked Camacaro's biggest offensive outburst since his three-homer, six-RBI day last July 26th for Kinston against Wilmington. Incidentally, that performance occurred mere days after Camacaro's son was born, so apparently Camacaro really has a thing for anniversaries.

Three's Company...While Camacaro got most of the attention yesterday, his bookends in the bottom third of the order also had huge days. LF Nathan Panther reached base three times and scored three runs from the seventh spot in the order, and 2B Chris de la Cruz collected a pair of hits and drove in three runs from the nine-hole in his first start of the season. Together the trio went 6-13 with a sacrifice, a walk, a double, three home runs, seven runs scored, and 11 of Akron's 12 RBI.

A Win is a Win...Aeros starter Frank Herrmann had a rough introduction to the Eastern League yesterday, as five of the first six hitters he faced came home to score in the bottom of the first inning. Herrmann settled down however, and worked the next four innings without incident before running into trouble in the bottom of the sixth and departing after 5.2 innings. All told Herrmann allowed seven runs and eight hits in his outing, but by working relatively deep into the game he helped ease the taxing of a relief corps that had worked 10.1 innings in the first two games.

Tales From the Left Side of the Infield...Aeros 3B Wes Hodges hasn't skipped a beat in his first taste of Double-A, rapping three more hits yesterday to boost his average to a team-best .462 in the very early going. Hodges also has five hits in his last eight at-bats after going 1-5 on Opening Day. On the flip side, SS Josh Rodriguez is off to a rough start for the second straight season, as he has just one single in 13 at-bats this year after going 0-5 with a walk yesterday. In 2007 Rodriguez was hitting below the .200 mark until May 23rd before rebounding to hit .303 (69 for 228) from July 1st until the end of the season. Rodriguez also hit 13 of his 20 home runs, collected 45 of his 82 RBI, drew 35 of his 68 walks and stole nine of his 21 bases in the final two-plus months last year, so all is far from lost.
