Thunder Preseason ''Sons of Thunder'' Theme Jerseys Unveiled

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," has announced specialty jerseys titled "Sons of Thunder" will be worn by the team during all four preseason games, including the Friday, Oct. 8 preseason home game against the Ontario Reign at Stockton Arena which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Fans can take home an actual game-worn jersey by participating in a live auction on the ice immediately following this Friday's, Oct. 8 preseason home game. Select jerseys will also be available in a silent auction on the Fan Deck of Stockton Arena, lasting until the opening face-off of the third period.

The jerseys are a tribute to the team's 2009-10 internal playoff theme, titled "Sons of Thunder," which was displayed frequently on team-issued apparel when the Thunder advanced to the National Conference Final for the time in its five year history.

"The 'Sons of Thunder' theme was originally created to motivate our team behind closed doors during the playoffs last year," said Thunder assistant coach Matt O'Dette. "Our team shared interest in a television show about a biker club with many local references to Stockton and Lodi and its themes of toughne ss and brotherhood, which are similar to our team philosophy."

O'Dette continued, "When people became more curious by catching glimpses of it on team-issued t-shirts, the fascination evolved and we figured this would be the perfect timing to put a unique spin on our training camp jerseys. We're positive the fans will really enjoy it. The attitude that this theme created is something we want to continue to build on this season."

Originally a theme that branded team-issued playoff t-shirts and a leather vest awarded to a player of the game following each playoff victory, the preseason jerseys, designed by SP Apparel, feature a black colored base with the "Sons of Thunder" playoff theme logo on the front, player numbers in white with a gold trim on the sleeves and back, keeping in consistency with the team's similar black and gold color hues.

During their playoff run, the Thunder eliminated the Alaska Aces (defendin g Conference champion) in the first round, 3-1 in a best-of-five series and defeated the Bakersfield Condors (2010 Pacific Division champion), 4-1 in a best-of-seven series in the Conference Semifinal.

Additional jerseys will also be available via silent auction at "Fan Fest," starting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Stockton Arena and through an online auction at StocktonThunder.com.

Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 15, when the Thunder opens the 2010-11 regular season at home against the Ontario Reign, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com). The Thunder and Alaska Aces meet in the preseason opener on Oct. 5 at Sullivan Arena, beginning at 8:15 p.m. The Thunder and Ontario Reign square off in the only preseason game at Stockton Arena on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
