Sharks Drafted G Tyson Sexsmith Among Four Added to Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks announced the Sharks have assigned goaltender Tyson Sexsmith and the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League have assigned defenseman Ryan Constant to the Thunder.

Sexsmith, selected by San Jose in the third round (91st overal l) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and a Memorial Cup champion goaltender with the Vancouver Giants in 2006-07, is the first contracted goaltender to join the Thunder roster.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound goaltender was 2-0-0 in two ECHL games with a 2.50 goals-against-average and .932 save percentage with Kalamazoo and posted a 4-6-1 record, one shutout, .860 save percentage and 3.94 goals-against-average in 13 AHL games last season with Worcester.

The native of Calgary, Alberta had a career 1 20-35-6 record with a 2.00 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage in 179 games through five seasons (2004-09) with the Vancouver Giants and Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League.

Sexsmith helped guide Vancouver to a Memorial Cup championship in 2006-07 and posted career-highs in wins (43), minutes (3,678) and games (62) in 2007-08 with a 43-11-8 record, nine shutouts, .911 save percentage and league-leading 1.89 goals-against-average.

He is the WHL all-time leader with 26 career shutouts.

Constant, 25, is the ninth player to return from the 2009-10 Thunder team that advanced to the Conference Final.

The Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Mantioba resident skated in Worcester training camp for 2010-11 and had a career-high six goals along with 25 points (6g-19a) and 97 penalty min utes in 62 games last season with the Thunder.

He scored 10 points (4g-6a) in 15 Kelly Cup Playoff games last year and ended the longest 0-0 playoff game in ECHL history with a goal at 36 seconds into triple overtime in a 1-0 Thunder win over Idaho in Game 3 of the National Conference Final.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound blueliner has skated in 254 career games in the ECHL with the Thunder and Charlotte Checkers and in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons and Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring 81 points (17g-64a) and totaling 337 penalty mintues.

Constant played three years (2003-06) of his junior career with the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, drawing 482 penalty minutes and scoring 101 points (23g-78a) in 153 career games.

Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 15, when the Thunder opens the 2010-11 regular season at home against the Ontario Reign, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com). The Thunder and Alaska Aces meet in the preseason opener on Oct. 5 at Sullivan Arena, beginning at 8:15 p.m. The Thunder and Ontario Reign square off in the only preseason game at Stockton Arena on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
