Thunder need one hit for win over Fisher Cats

(Trenton, NJ)- The Thunder got seven shutout innings from starter Tyler Clippard and needed just one hit to collect a 1-0 win over New Hampshire on Monday night at Waterfront Park. It was the second 1-0 win for the Thunder (35-34) this season.

Clippard (3-9) allowed a pair of singles in the 1st Inning to the Fisher Cats (31-37), but then retired the next 14 batters in a row before walking two batters in the 6th Inning. Overall, he allowed three hits with two walks and six strikeouts for the win. Jesus Colome and Justin Pope each worked a scoreless inning of relief. Pope earning his 13th save with a scoreless 9th Inning.

The Thunder scored the only run in the 6th Inning off New Hampshire starter Kyle Yates. Yates walked SS J.T. Stotts with one out. A passed ball on C Curtis Thigpen moved him to 2nd Base. The only Trenton hit was a bunt single by CF Brett Gardner that moved Stotts to 3rd Base. He scored on a Gabe Lopez sacrifice fly. Yates (3-6) took the hard luck loss allowing one run and one hit in seven shutout innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 PM. Matt DeSalvo (1-0, 2.25) starts for the Thunder against New Hampshire's David Purcey (0-0, 3.38).
