New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Trenton, NJ - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (31-37) lost 1-0 to the Trenton Thunder (35-34) Monday night at Waterfront Park. New Hampshire allowed just one hit in the game, but it was enough for Trenton to pull away with a win.
The lone run in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning as Trenton shortstop J.T. Stotts drew a one out walk. He advanced to second on a passed ball and reached third on Trenton's only hit of the game, a single by center fielder Brett Gardner. Second baseman Gabe Lopez then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Stotts.
New Hampshire starter Kyle Yates (3-6) allowed just one hit in his seven innings of work, walking three and striking out five. At one point he retired 14 consecutive Trenton batters. The Fisher Cats had won four games in a row when Yates was the starter before tonight's loss.
Trenton right-hander Tyler Clippard (3-9) matched Yates, throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks (one intentional). He struck out six. He also had a string of 14 consecutive batters retired. Right-hander Jesus Colome pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Justin Pope pitched a scoreless ninth for his 13th save. New Hampshire had just two runners reach second base. Second baseman Carlo Cota drew a one out walk in the sixth and advanced to second on a ground out but was stranded there to end the inning. In the ninth, left fielder Adam Lind led off with a single, extending his hit streak to ten games. Justin Singleton pinch ran for Lind and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by catcher Curtis Thigpen. A fly out to deep center by right fielder Ron Davenport allowed Singleton to advance to third, but he was stranded there as center fielder David Smith struck out to end the game.
The teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 PM as lefty David Purcey (0-0, 3.38) goes for the Fisher Cats against Trenton righty Matt DeSalvo (1-0, 2.25).
