Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (Dec. 29th) - Wichita and Allen met for the second time in three days on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Zach Hall broke a 2-2 game with five minutes left and the Americans held on for a 3-2 victory at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Mark MacMillan and Travis Ewanyk provided the Thunder offense. Kevin Dufour had a pair of helpers in the losing effort.
Wichita didn't take long to get on the board, scoring 1:06 into the game. MacMillan whistled a wrist shot past Stephon Williams into the top right corner to make it 1-0. Allen evened things up on the power play at 12:25 as Bryan Moore slid one under Joel Rumpel from behind the goal line. Ewanyk re-gained the lead for the Thunder with 16 seconds to go in the first. He found a rebound off a shot from Jeremy Beaudry and made it 2-1.
The Americans tied the game with seven minutes to go in the second. Alex Guptill fought off a back check and beat Rumpel.
In the third, tempers flared halfway through the period when Dyson Stevenson labeled Olivier Archambault near the penalty boxes. Just a few minutes later, Etienne Boutet and Alex Guptill drop the gloves during an extended after-the-whistle scrum.
With five minutes to go, Zach Hall scored his second of the week against the Thunder after he found a turnover in the slot and put a backhand in to give the Americans their first lead of the game. Wichita pulled Rumpel twice in the final two minutes, but couldn't find the equalizer and fell 3-2.
MacMillan tallied his team-leading 13th of the year while Ewanyk netted his 10th of the season. Dufour has three points in two games since being acquired from Brampton.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Allen was 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
The Thunder finishes their home portion of the 2017 schedule tomorrow night at home starting at 7:05 p.m. against Allen.
