Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder were edged 4-3 by the Oklahoma City Blazers in overtime at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday night. Oriel McHugh's shot from the point past Krister Toews gave the Blazers the win, after the Thunder mounted a third period comeback.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the third, Jordan Hack scored off of a loose puck that bounced off the endboards at 2:57 to cut the lead to 3-2. Jason Duda knocked in a backdoor rebound at 10:56 to tie the game. Wichita nearly won the game in overtime themselves, but goaltender Doug Groenestege robbed Jason Tessier on a one-time shot near the one minute mark.

Blazers forward scored a pair of first period goals to give Oklahoma a 2-0 lead. Jelitto's second goal, which came on the power play at 18:50 in the first period, snapped a 25 for 25 streak for the Thunder on the penalty kill.

At 16:16 in the second, Chris Shudo was pulled down on a breakaway in front of Groenestege, resulting in a penalty shot. Shudo deked and fired past the left of Groenestege to cut the Blazers lead in half. Oklahoma City re-extended their lead less than two minutes later when Jason Murfitt inadvertantly deflected a puck past Krister Toews at 18:26. Toews took over for Tim Boron after the first period.

Pascal Bedard finished with two assists. Groenestege earned the win, saving 22 of 25. Toews took the loss, saving 22 of 24. Boron saved five of seven but did not return for the second period.
