Eagles Fly Past Scorpions
January 30, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[LOVELAND, Col.]-Behind a three-goal first period, Colorado beat New Mexico 6-2 on Friday night. It was the first loss of the season for the Scorps inside the Budweiser Events Center.
Colorado came into the game the CHL's best first period team, and they showed why. Adam Hogg scored on the very first Eagles' shot of the game.
Greg Pankewicz put the home team up 2-0, when his wrist shot from the slot found Ryan Gibb's five-hole 7:31 into the first period. Hogg scored his second goal of the game when he tipped in a Scott Polaski shot.
Seth Leonard put the Scorpions on the board with his first goal against his former team 6:37 into the middle period. The momentum was short lived as a minute later Aaron Schneekloth scored a shorthanded goal making it a 4-1 Colorado lead.
The Eagles came out with the pedal to the metal in the third period. Goals by Kevin Ulanski and Ed McGrane gave the Eagles a five-goal advantage. The Scorpions finished the game's scoring as Craig Macdonald lit the lamp on the power play.
The same two teams will battle again tomorrow in Loveland. The game starts at 7 p.m. and can be seen live, exclusively on the CHL Network.
New Mexico returns to the Santa Ana Star Center the weekend of February 6th. The first 1,500 fans through the gates receive pucks courtesy of the City of Rio Rancho. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m.
The following night is "Salute to the Badges Night." Prior to the game, enjoy the annual "Cops vs. Fire" battle starting at 4:30 p.m. The Scorpions will auction off special jerseys worn during their game to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico.
Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
