
Bucks Hang On For 3-2 Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 Friday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Laredo has now won two straight games to improve to 24-13-4 (52pts). Texas also won Friday night, keeping the Bucks still 10 points back of the Brahmas in the Division.
Serge Dube scored two points (1-1=2), while Sebastien Centomo stopped 30 of 32 shots in net to lead the Bucks.
The Bucks (17-4-1 at home) jumped out of the gates quickly as they struck just 1:09 into the first period. Igor Agarunov scored a wrap around goal past Christian Boucher past his blocker. The goal was Agarunov's eighth of the season, with Alex Goupil (23) and Mitch Stephens (34) picked up assists. The point was Stephens's first as a Buck.
Laredo improves to 16-5 when scoring first this season, and to 11-4-4 in one-goal games.
Laredo would increase their lead to 2-0 as they took advantage of a five-on-three power-play. Adam Rivet sent a slap shot from the point past Boucher. The strike was Rivet's seventh of the season.
The Bucks outshot the Killer Bees in the first 20 minutes 14-8.
Rio (19-19-4) cut the Bucks lead in half to 2-1 as they scored on the power-play just 1:01 into the second, as Matt Byrnes deflected in a Jesse Bennefield shot from the point.
Laredo would make it 3-1 when Serge Dube took a laser feed in slot from Rick Kozak and hammerd a shot by Boucher. Dube's goal was his seventh of the season, with Kozak picking up his 18th assist of the year.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 16-8.
Evan Rankin scored a five-on-three power-play goal to pull the Bees to within 3-2 in the third period.
The Killer Bees pulled Boucher for the final 1:14 for an extra attacker, but the Bucks hung on for the win.
Laredo was outshot for the game 32-29.
The game started nearly 50 minutes late, due to the Killer Bees bus breaking down.
The Bucks will wear their Annual President's Day Jersey's on Saturday January 31 when they host Corpus Christi at the LEC. The Jersey's will be auctioned off after the game.
