Wichita, KS (February 25th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of defenseman Jarkko Leppanen. The native of Tampere, Finland is expected to be in the line-up tonight as the Thunder host the Arizona Sundogs.

Leppanen (lepp-EN-in), 26, comes to the Thunder from the Mississippi Surge of the SPHL where he played in 45 games, tallying four goals and 12 helpers. The second-year blue liner split time during his rookie season with the Dayton Demonz of the Federal Hockey League and Mississippi, where he totaled 24 points in 59 games (3g, 21a). Before turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound defenseman played four years at New England College (NCAA DIII), where he totaled 52 points in 105 career games. Leppanen earned ECAC East Second Team Honors during the 2011-12 season.

Wichita begins an important stretch tonight when the Arizona Sundogs come to town at 7:05 p.m. The Thunder has five games left against Arizona and see the Sundogs twice this week. Wichita has four games in five nights starting Friday evening against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 p.m. Down the stretch, the Thunder has six contests left against the Oilers including Friday night's match-up.
