Arizona Sundogs News Release

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs gave up a two goal lead against the Wichita Thunder Tuesday night leading to their 4-3 shootout loss. The Sundogs remain undefeated in the regulation in their last three games picking up a point in each one.

Arizona jumped out to an early lead when Dion Campbell scored on the power play 1:47 into the first period after Wichita's Dustin Donaghy was given two minutes for interference. Justin Pender and Mark Isherwood were each credited with the assists. The Thunder would tie the game halfway through the period with a shot from Mike Wilson. The Sundogs gained the lead heading into the first intermission when Pender came in all alone with a wrister and scored unassisted with 24 seconds left in the first.

The Sundogs saw a short-lived two goal lead in the second period with a goal from Kevin Baker that he ripped past the stick side of Wichita goalie, David Brown. Wichita opted to relieve Brown after giving up three goals sending in backup goaltender Taylor Nelson to finish out the game. The Thunder came back from their deficit posting two goals in less than three minutes at the end of the second. Their first, coming on a weird bounce off the boards and sticked down by Jared Walker, 16:15 into the second. Jon Booras put up the game equalizer while on the power play after Sundogs goaltender Andrew Engelage misplayed the puck behind his net leaving it wide open for the goal.

With the game undecided in regulation the action was forced into overtime and a subsequent six-round shootout. The Sundogs successfully killed off a 4-on-3 penalty kill at the start of overtime after Alex Tuckerman was assessed two minutes for slashing at the end of the third. Johan Ryd scored Arizona's only shot in the shootout helping Wichita take the win after Matt Summers and Tomas Klempa each collected successful shots. Klempa was credited with the game winning goal.

Engelage blocked 37 shots of the 40 he faced. Wichita outshot Arizona 41-28. The Sundogs were 1-3 on the power play and the Thunder were 1-6.

The Sundogs continue their road trip heading to Allen, Texas for a pair of games Friday and Saturday before returning to Wichita for their second game against the Thunder.
