Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks fell 4-1 to the Allen Americans on Tuesday night at the Independence Events Center. Every contest between the Mavericks and Americans has ended in a 3-goal decision.

Sebastien Thinel opened up the scoreboard for the Mavericks early in the first period with a power play goal on Missouri's first man-advantaged opportunity. Mathieu Gagnon and Anders Franzon were credited with the assists on the jump start goal. The Mavs held strong throughout the entire opening frame, containing the Allen Americans to their own end of the ice, and holding their opponent to only 1 shot on goal through the first half of the period.

Allen struck back in the second period, first tying the game up at 1-1 with a goal from Tyler Ludwig at 1:42, then taking the lead 2-1 over the Mavs was Jonathan Lessard (unassisted) at 4:59. The Mavericks scored at one point amidst the frenzy of aggressive play, but the goal was waived off by officials. Ben Power made the big 3-1 jump for the Americans at 12:42 of the second period assisted by Alex Lavoie and Jonathan Lessard.

The Mavs came up empty in their 2 minute power play opportunity to start the third period. The energy of the game had definitely taken a downturn in the final frame, but Allen was still able to find its way past goaltender Shane Owen to bump their lead up 4-1 as Tyler Ludwig notched his second tally of the night.

Unable to get a shot past Americans' goaltender Bryan Pitton who faced 37 shots through 60 minutes, the Mavericks fell by 3 goals 4-1 to Allen.

The Missouri Mavericks play their next game on the road against the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday, February 26th at 7:05pm. Then the Mavs will travel to St. Charles to face the Chill at 7:05pm on Friday, February 28th before returning home to the Independence Events Center on Saturday, March 1st to drop the puck against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm.
