(Trenton, NJ)- Binghamton pounded out 11 hits and scored all seven of their runs with two outs in a 7-3 win over the Thunder on Friday. A paid crowd of 7,807 was on hand at Waterfront Park, which is the largest crowd of the 2006 season.
Binghamton (41-44), which won their seventh straight game, jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a 1st Inning home run by 1B Michel Abreu off Thunder starter Francisco Butto. But Trenton (47-40) came back to tie the game in the 3rd Inning on a two-run homer by DH Randy Ruiz off B-Mets starter Robert Paulk. The Mets took the lead for good in the 4th Inning. With runners at 2nd and 3rd Base with two outs, SS Corey Ragsdale picked up a bunt hit that brought in a run for a 3-2 lead. C Mike DiFelice followed with a two-run double for a 5-2 lead. Butto (1-2) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Trenton got a run back in the 5th Inning on a Gabe Lopez RBI double, but with two men in scoring position, Mets reliever Orlando Roman got out of the jam with the help of an out at the plate. RF Ambiorix Concepcion threw out Brett Gardner at home. Roman (4-2) tossed four shutout innings of relief for the win.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 PM. Charlie Manning (6-1, 3.17) starts for the Thunder against Binghamton's Miguel Perez (2-4, 5.05).
