New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats have always been attracted to competitors who combine exceptional speed with great focus and, on Thursday night, July 13th, they're going to have one of the best in their Stadium. Thanks to the sponsorship of Stanley Racing, the Eastern League club will play host to Scott Riggs - the first year Nextel Cup driver and 2002 Busch Series Rookie of the Year - who competes for the 2006 Stanley Tools/Valvoline Racing Team.
The Stanley Works, the New Britain-based tool manufacturing giant, has both a keen interest and significant investment in the NASCAR circuit, as evidenced by its sponsorship of the Evernham Motorsports Team, which supports the 35-year-old Riggs as well as teammates Jeremy Mayfield, Kasey Kahne and western New England favorite, Erin Crocker.
"Stanley values our relationship with our hometown team - the Rock Cats - and is happy to bring a top Nextel Cup driver to New Britain", said Scott Bannell, Director of Brand Marketing at Stanley. "Scott Riggs is an excellent brand ambassador for Stanley and we look forward to another great night at the Stadium."
The July 13, 2006 event will include a one-hour autograph session with Mr. Riggs between 5:30 and 6:30 PM in a tent outside the front gates of New Britain Stadium. The first 200 fans in possession of a ticket for that night's Rock Cats game will be invited to join the autograph line and receive an arm band indicating that they will receive Mr. Riggs' autograph; arm bands will be distributed starting at 4:00 PM.
Additionally, the No.10 Stanley Dodge will be parked nearby and Riggs will drive that vehicle into the Stadium to receive an official Rock Cats jersey (#10), toss out the ceremonial first pitch, and say a few words to the crowd before the start of the Rock Cats' 7:05 PM game against Eastern League rival, New Hampshire. The first 500 kids (12- and-under) entering the Stadium on that Thursday night will receive a 1:64 Diecast #10 Stanley Dodge model racing car; the first 500 adults through the gates will receive a Stanley Multi-Opener tool!
In addition to the above, there will also be a Race Car Exhibit, courtesy of Davidson Racing and our friends at Stafford Speedway. Fans are warmly invited to take pictures with these special cars which will include Late Model, SK Lights and Limited Late Model cars. These vehicles will later join Scott Riggs in a pre-game, on-field Parade of Cars prior to Mr. Riggs tossing out the ceremonial first pitch.
Fans wishing to purchase tickets to this or any other Rock Cats' game in the 2006 Season may do so by visiting the Stadium Box Office Monday-Friday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM; by calling the Rock Cats at (860) 224-8383, or; by visiting the club's website at www.rockcats.com.
The New Britain Rock Cats are the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the American League Central Division's Minnesota Twins.
