Thunder Fall in 2-1 Heartbreaker

Coastal Bend Thunder News Release

August 18, 2009 - Robstown, Texas - Unlike the first two games of the series, game three featured two superb pitching performances. Unfortunately for Thunder fans, Tim Haines came out on top of Thunder lefty Frank James. Coastal Bend had several opportunities to score but Haines got the better of the Thunder hitters with runners in scoring position. The difference in the ballgame was a clutch hit with runners on second and third and two outs by Edinburg right fielder Hunter Owen. Kelly Casares picked up his twelfth save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth after surviving some pressure from the Thunder offense.

Edinburg started the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Ryan Matlock singled following a leadoff walk to Sergio Guerrero. With two outs, Hunter Owen lined sharply to left center to drive in both Matlock and Guerrero to give the RoadRunners a 2-0 lead.

Coastal Bend responded by scratching out a run off Tim Haines in the bottom of the fourth. Manny Mejia led off with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. Alex Fernandez dropped a fly ball in front Hunter Owen in right sending Mejia to third. With two outs, Villaescusa worked a full count and drew a walk to load the bases. Kevin Butler's swinging bunt drove in Mejia from third to cut the RoadRunner lead to one.

Coastal Bend looks to take the series with a win Wednesday at Fairgrounds Field. Wednesday is Family Night, where you can get four tickets, four hotdogs, and four bottles of water or soda for only $20.
