Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos wasted another strong outing by Gregorio Martinez, as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings won by a score of 2-1 at Veterans Field, on Tuesday.
The WhiteWings started the scoring in the second. Welison Baez was on first base after a single, when Jose Torres singled as well. Baez headed for third base, and the throw by Argelis Nunez from right field missed everyone. Baez ended up scoring to give Rio Grand Valley the 1-0 lead.
The WhiteWings added to their lead in the third. Brian Nichols hit an rbi single that scored Augstin Septimo. That made the score 2-0.
The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the fifth. Jaime Morales hit a solo home run, his second of the season. The score was now 2-1.
Broncos' starter Gregorio Martinez pitched seven solid innings for the Laredo. He gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on seven hits. He walked three and struck out six. Fernando Rijo came in to pitch the eighth.
Rijo pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings as the Broncos trailed by one heading to the bottom of ninth.
Wendy Rosa, who came into the game in the seventh for the WhiteWings, came out looking to close it out. The Broncos went quietly as they lost their 13th game in a row, by a score of 2-1.
The Broncos scored 1 run on 5 hits and had 3 errors while the WhiteWings scored 2 runs on 7 hits and had 2 errors.
The Broncos are now 21-46 on the season while the WhiteWings are 32-35. The Broncos will next be in action Wednesday August 19th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Laredo at 7:35.
