
WhiteWings Cross up Broncos

Laredo - In his first start for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, David Cross (1-0) picked up a career-high 10 strikeouts to beat the Laredo Broncos 2-1 tonight at Veterans Field.
The WhiteWings are now winners of four-straight while the Broncos are losers of 13-in-a-row.
Cross went six and two-thirds innings, scattering four hits and one walk. The only run he allowed to the Broncos (21-46) come on a Jaime Morales home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth that made it 2-1 at the time.
The WhiteWings (32-35) struck against Gregorio Martinez (4-6) in the top of the second. With one out, Welinson Baez singled. Jose Torres followed with a single, moving Baez to second. Argelis Nunez came up throwing towards third, but the ball went wide, allowing Baez to score to make it 1-0.
Agustin Septimo led off the top of the third inning with a walk. He moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Brian Nichols to make it 2-0.
That was it against Martinez, who gave up seven hits and three walks in seven innings while striking out six.
Wendy Rosa pitched the final two and one-third innings for his first save. Closer Julio Santana was again unavailable after pitching five innings combined on Saturday and Sunday.
The WhiteWings and Broncos play for the final time in the regular season tomorrow night at 7:35 at Veterans Field. Right-hander Jose Cordero (0-0) is expected to face left-hander Luis Arroyo (2-7).
