SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Wichita Thunder dropped an 8-3 decision to the Mississippi Riverkings on Tuesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Thunder allowed a season-high eight goals, including five in the first period. Jeff Nelson scored two for the Kings, while Adam Smyth, Jeff Nelson, and Brad Bonello also added first period goals. Shortly after Mississippi went up 5-0, a line brawl broke out involving fighting majors given to Joel Hanson and Troy Ofukany.
Wichita got on the board in the second period when Chris Tarkir received credit for a goal at 7:35. The Kings scored three more unanswered goals over the end of the second and early part of the third, including a second tally from Dumont.
The Thunder managed one shot in the first period, a season-low for one period. Tim Boron took the loss, saving seven of 11 shots before being pulled after the Riverkings took a 4-0 lead. Krister Toews finished the night in goal for the Thunder saving 25 of 29.
