Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - A third period rally fell just short for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, who fell 4-3 to the Texas Brahmas Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center. The Bugs nearly overcame a three-goal deficit to tie the game late, but the Brahmas held on to win their sixth straight over Bossier-Shreveport.
All three Mudbugs goals in the game came off the sticks of defensemen, highlighted by J.R. Bria's first career professional goal. Todd Paul also scored his first of the year for the Bugs and Dave Pszenyczny's goal with six minutes left in the third brought them back within one goal of tying the game up.
Although the Mudbugs carried much of the play and outshot the Brahmas 16-4 in the first period, Texas scored on its first two shots of the game to lead 2-0 after one. Tyler Skworchinski tipped in a Kevin McLeod point shot on the powerplay for the first goal, and then Craig Minard's long shot was deflected in by Grant Jacobsen in front to give Texas the two-goal edge after one.
Another Skworchinski deflection gave the Brahmas a 3-0 lead early in the third period as he changed the direction of Jordan Cameron's shorthanded effort to get it past Jon Horrell just 59 seconds into the second. Horrell was then replaced in goal by Ryan Mior. Bria's slapshot from the point then got the Mudbugs going, beating Brett Jaeger stick side off an assist from J.J. Martin and getting the Bugs back within two. Late in the middle period though, McLeod's powerplay tally got the three-goal advantage back for the Brahmas, who led 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Mudbugs pushed hard in the third period, scoring twice to get within one goal. Todd Paul scored when his wrist shot from the point made it through traffic and into the back of the net to make it 4-2 halfway through the third. A few minutes later, Martin won a faceoff right back to Pszenyczny, who fired a shot off Jaeger's glove and into the top corner to cut the Texas lead to just one. Jaeger made a few key saves down the stretch though to preserve a 4-3 Brahmas victory.
Although he surrendered just one of the four goals, Ryan Mior took the loss, stopping nine of the ten shots he faced. Horrell made four saves on seven shots in the first 21 minutes of the game before giving way to Mior. Jaeger finished the night with 32 stops and won for the 10th time this year.
The Mudbugs failed to score a powerplay goal for just the sixth time this season, going 0 for 9 on the man advantage, while Texas went 2 for 8 on the powerplay. The Mudbugs outshot the Brahmas by a commanding 35-17 margin in the loss.
Bossier-Shreveport will get right back to it after the Christmas holiday, opening up a home-and-home series with the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night at CenturyTel Center. The series will then shift to Corpus Christi's American Bank Center on Saturday night. The Bugs and IceRays (who lost 5-3 to Odessa Tuesday night) meet for the first time this season on Friday night, with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm. Individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700 and group packages are available through the Mudbugs office at 318-752-BUGS.
