Trenton Thunder News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Brandon Wagner and Kellin Deglan each homered in a 4-1 seven-inning, rain-shortened, win for the Thunder over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.
With the win, the Thunder claimed a victory in the season series over the Ponies, 6-5, and ensured they'll remain in first place at the end of play on Thursday night.
Wagner got the offense started with an opposite-field solo homer in the bottom of the second off Tommy Wilson. It was Wagner's first homer since he went back-to-back with Ben Ruta on May 27th at Binghamton. Rashad Crawford added an RBI single in the fourth inning to extend the Thunder lead to 2-0.
Deglan blasted the Thunder's second homer of the night with a two-run shot in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Deglan's second home run of the season with Thunder continued a torrid run at the plate, he's 13-for-30 (.433) over his last nine games.
Nick Nelson earned the win with five scoreless innings on Thursday night. Nelson allowed four hits, one walk and struck out five on 89 pitches to earn his second win of the season. Brady Lail followed with two innings of relief, surrendering Binghamton's only run while pitching through the rain on an RBI double to Will Toffey.
Chris Gittens went 2-for-2 with a walk and Kyle Holder hit his first triple of the season to aid the Thunder offensive attack.
