TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their three-game series against the Trenton Thunder at NYSEG Stadium. It is also the last time these two teams play each other in the regular season.
EVENLY MATCHED: Not just have the teams split the first ten meetings of the season (5-5), they have split the matchups at home. At NYSEG Stadium, the two teams are 3-3 and at ARM & HAMMER Park the clubs are 2-2.
TIGHT EASTERN DIVISION RACE: The Rumble Ponies remain in fourth place in the Eastern Division. The Thunder are now in first place by a half game over Hartford and Reading, with Binghamton 1.5 GB. The first half of the regular season ends on Tuesday, June 18th.
BATTLE FOR BEST AVERAGE IN EL: Thunder infielder Hoy Park now has the best average in the Eastern League with a .309 average. Braxton Lee dropped to second place at .308. Lee drove home one of the two Binghamton runs last night hitting into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Lee now has 23 RBI.
ALVAREZ BIG SERIES: Thunder third basemen Mandy Alvarez is 5-9 over the first two games of the series with 6 RBI. Alvarez is hitting .361 (13-36) for the season in nine games against Binghamton.
WALK AROUND THE PARK: The Rumble Ponies and Thunder also have two of the league leaders in walks on their roster. Ponies third basemen Will Toffey is tied for the EL lead in walks with 37 with Portland's Bobby Dalbec. Thunder first basemen Chris Gittens is second with 36 base on balls.
THOMPSON'S HOT START: David Thompson was 3-4 with two runs scored in the series-opener against Trenton. Thompson already has had two games where he has finished with three hits since joining the team on 5/31. Thompson has also gotten a hit in eight of the ten games he's played in a Rumble Ponies uniform.
BINGHAMTON STUD MUFFINS ON ESPN: This past Saturday the Rumble Ponies were recognized in ESPN's "Minor League Promotion of the Week" for the "What if Night - Binghamton Stud Muffins" evening this Friday against the Altoona Curve. The "Stud Muffins" were the runner up name in the 2016 "Name the team" vote resulting in the Binghamton Mets being rebranded as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies!
COMING UP: The Rumble Ponies continue their six-game homestand Friday opening up a three-game set with the Altoona Curve beginning Friday night at 7:05PM. Saturday night's game begins at 6:35PM, with a Fathers Day afternoon matinee at 2:05PM.
