
Thunder Closes Home Schedule With Loss

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 5-2 to the Missouri Mavericks at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Sunday evening.
Wichita grabbed a 1-0 lead just 66 seconds into the game. Paul Kelly carried the puck from end-to-end, picking up steam as he crossed center ice. Kelly eventually worked through the right faceoff circle and beat Charlie Effinger with a backhand shot inside the left post. Missouri tied the game at 13:02 on a tough-angle shot by Blake Forsyth. Forsyth threw the puck at the net from the left corner, threading it behind Ian Keserich.
Tomas Klempa punched in a power play rebound on a wide open net at 6:00 in the second to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage. Missouri tied the game for a second time just 39 seconds later when Braden Walls fired a slapshot a few steps inside the left point that made it past Keserich. Walls gave the Mavericks their first lead of the night at 8:20, picking up a rebound in the middle of the slot and shooting past Keserich's left. Jeff MacDermid added a power play goal with 31 seconds left in the period to make it 4-2 Missouri. Toby Lafrance potted a fifth Missouri goal at 3:43.
Charlie Effinger picked up the win, saving 31 of 33. Ian Keserich took the loss, saving 28 of 33. Wichita went 1 for 5 on the power play while Missouri was 1 for 4.
