Thunder Bounces Back With 4-1 Win

RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Rapid City Rush 4-1 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night. Jason Duda gave Wichita a 1-0 lead at 6:39 in the first period with goal to the backdoor of Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry. Wichita took a 2-0 lead when Bryan Nathe rifled a slapshot past Beaudry that clanked off the right post before hitting the back of the net at 3:26 in the second period. Joel Hanson cleaned up a rebound from Jason Duda and Troy Ofukany at 16:58 later in the period making it 3-0.

Derek LeBlanc cut into the wichita lead on a breakaway at With the Rush on a two-man advantage, but Scott Rozendal sealed the game with a long empty netter from his own zone to make it 4-1 Thunder.

Krister Toews saved 38 of 39 shots to pick up his eigth win of the season. The Thunder penalty kill was a perfect 11 for 11. The victory was the first against Rapid City in four tries this season. Rozendal's empty netter was Wichita's second shorthanded goal this year. The Thunder was outshot 39 to 37. Duda, Hanson, and Greg Cassista each finished with two points.

The Thunder finish their weekend action tomorrow afternoon at Rocky Mountain. Opening faceoff at the Broomfield Event Center is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Central Time. Coverage can be heard worldwide at www.wichitathunder.com
