New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[AMARILLO, Tex.]-The Scorpions halted their two-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory in Amarillo Saturday night. Rookie Torren Delforte led the offense with two goals and one assist.
Amarillo started the game's scoring with a power play goal. Former Scorpion John Ornelas found Jake Morissette in front of the net. Morissette quickly threw the puck into the net giving his team a 1-0 lead.
The Scorpions stormed back to tie as Michael Beynon launched a slap shot from just inside the circle, his third of the season, tying the game. Aaron MacInnis gave the Scorpions their first lead of the game at the 18:59 mark with a wicked wrist shot.
Less than two minutes into the second period Amarillo tied the game up with a Sam Ftorek power play goal. New Mexico answered late in the middle frame when Chris Robertson showed great patience.
Robertson waited for his team to make a line change and found Torren Delforte coming off the bench. Delforte promptly deposited the puck over the right shoulder of goalie Mike Gorman, giving the Scorps a 3-2 lead.
The third period belonged to the Scorpions. Craig Macdonald pushed the lead to two as he scored for the 10th time this season. Delforte undressed Gorman for his second goal of the game 12:24 into the final period. Neil Trimm finished the game's offense with his 9th of the season on a hard slap shot from the slot.
