Clark Gets AHL Call-Up
January 10, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
HIDALGO, TX - Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs forward Neil Clark has been recalled by the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, the team announced today. Clark will join the Americans tonight and could be in the lineup when Rochester faces the Binghamton Senators at 6:05 pm Central time.
"Going up to the next level is what guys are here to get the opportunity to do," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Clarkie is certainly a guy that deserves that chance; he's worked hard and has been such a multi-dimensional player for us this year. We're very happy for him, proud of him and we hope he can make the best of this opportunity."
Clark has been hot lately for the Mudbugs, scoring three goals and totaling four points in his last three games. His 12 goals this year are a new career high for the third-year pro from Burnaby, British Columbia and put him just one off the team lead in goal scoring. With eight assists in addition to those goals, Clark has also reached a new career high of 20 points this season, placing him seventh on the Mudbugs in scoring this year. He has registered seven multi-point games this year.
Clark has been a catalyst for Bossier-Shreveport's tough physical play this year as well. The 6' 2", 203-pounder is among the league leaders in fighting majors this season with 11 and his 115 penalty minutes put him in the top ten in the Central Hockey League. Clark also boasts a +4 rating, one game-winning goal and 86 shots on net this year.
Clark is no stranger to the AHL, playing 14 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins last season and then suiting up for two regular season games with Rochester this year before being sent to the Mudbugs. Clark has a total of 24 penalty minutes in those 16 career AHL games. While with Grand Rapids during the team's 2007 training camp, Clark actually played in two preseason NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Mudbugs are at Rio Grande Valley tonight looking for their fourth straight win when they take on the Killer Bees at 7:35 pm. The 'Bugs and Bees have met once prior this season, with Bossier-Shreveport earning a 4-3 victory at CenturyTel Center on November 28. Pregame coverage for this one will start at 7:15 pm on AM 1130 KWKH, and the game will also be shown live on the CHL Network.
