
Bes Scores 500th CHL Point In Bucks Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 4-1 Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks (20-10-4, 44pts) snap their three game winless streak, and move to with-in three points of the Texas Brahmas in the Southeast Division.
Jeff Bes scored three points in the win, to become just the 18th player to score 500 career CHL points.
Bes is now just three points shy of 900 in his entire 17-year career, as he sits at 897.
All-Star Sebastien Centomo stopped 31 of 32 Ice Rays shots to pick up the win in net for Laredo.
The Bucks (15-4-1 at home) quickly jumped out in front of the Ice Rays as they struck just 25 seconds into the game. Alex Goupil knocked in his own rebound from the left side of the crease over a sprawled out Kris Tebbs. The tally was Goupil's 15th of the year, with Darryl Smith (21) and Bes (38) picking up assists.
Laredo would increase their lead with 3:06 left in the first period, as All-Star Darryl Smith rifled home a long rebound from the right circle past Tebbs. The goal was Smith's 21st of the year, with Bes picking up the assist.
Bes' second assist of the night gave him 500 career CHL points.
Laredo outshot Corpus (13-17-4) in the first 20 minutes 13-12.
The Bucks would make it 3-0 just 2:33 into the second period, when Rick Kozak scored from the high slot off of a feed from Ryan Salvis on a two-on-one break. Kozak scored his 12TH of the year.
Laredo would increase their lead to 4-0 as they knocked in a power-play goal 9:29 into the middle period. Bes jammed home a rebound from the right circle past Tebbs to score his 12th of the season, with Serge Dube and Goupil each picking up their 20th assist.
The Bucks were outshot in the second 20 minutes 12-10.
Corpus would get on the board 7:20 into the third when Nicholas Bachand deflected a shot in on the power-play.
Laredo was outshot for the game 32-24.
Centomo and Smith will play in the CHL All-Star Game Wednesday night in Colorado, as the CHL All-Stars take on the Colorado Eagles.
The Bucks will be off for the All-Star break, and will return to action next Friday (Jan 16) with a re-match against the Ice Rays in Corpus Christi.
